Instructions
Create a simple graph titled "What I Want to Be," with pictures of
different occupations along the base of the graph. Also add an "other"
column.
l Write each child's name on a sticky note.
What To Do
1. Gather the children and show them the graph. Review each of the
chosen jobs represented on the graph, discussing the children's
experience of each career.
2. Ask the children to take turns attaching the sticky notes with their
names on them to the columns of the careers they would most like to
pursue when they grow up.
3. Invite the children who put their sticky notes in the "other" column to
describe the careers they want to pursue when they grow up.
4. After the children add their sticky notes to the graph, talk with the
children about the results. Count the number of sticky notes in each
column. Ask the children which career most of them want to pursue.
Ask them which career seems the most unusual.
5. Set the graph up in the classroom for the children to show and discuss
with their parents and family members later.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name the workers and describe some of the jobs
they do?
l Can the children read the graph to see which career was the most
popular?
