Instructions

1. Give each child a baggie, a spoon, and a disposable cup filled with hair gel.
2. Ask the children to scoop the hair gel into the baggie until it is about a third
full. If using food coloring, let the children squirt a small amount of the color
of their choice in the bag.
3. Help the children squeeze most of the air out of their baggie and securely
zip their bags shut.
4. Wipe off the edges of the zipper and secure it with masking tape.
5. Let the children squish the bags to distribute the food coloring, if needed.
6. Let the children store their Squishy Bags in their cubbies, if possible, or in a
large basket.
7. Bring out the bags whenever the children have to wait for a few moments
for others to get ready to transition from one activity to another. The children
can squeeze and manipulate the bags, which is very soothing.
More to do Literacy: Show the children how to use one fingertip as a pencil and print their
names on their Squishy Bags.
