30" x 24" learning mat
cylinder-shaped container contact paper label, optional learning mat activity in a containerInstructions
1. Purchase a 30" x 24" learning mat from a discount store (made by Learning
Playground), or make your own.
2. In advance, collect an empty container to hold the rolled-up mat. A cylinder
that is 9" tall and 5" in diameter works great.
3. Cover the container with contact paper. If desired, add a decorative label and
write "Learning Mat" on it.
4. Place the container with the learning mat, rolled crosswise, in a designated
area of the classroom.
5. Next to it, place any teacher-made, learning-mat activity you wish to feature.
The activity should be in its own container. For example, it could be in its
own file jacket labeled with the contents.
6. Invite a child to unroll the mat, place it on the floor where she wants to work,
and use it as the work surface for the matching activity.
7. Each week or so, replace the learning mat activity with a new one.
8. The visual enticement will keep the children busy all year long!
