Instructions

1. About two hours prior to doing the activity, gather fresh leaves from outside.
Using double-sided tape, tape the leaves vein-side up in a 9" diameter
wreath design on a flat surface.
Note: Leaves gathered too early may dry out and crumble.
2. Tape a sheet of copy paper over the wreath design, making sure not to tape
the leaves. Show the children how to use the sides of unwrapped crayons to
rub gently over the leaf wreath to create the design on the copy paper.
3. Let the children choose a sheet of copy paper or newsprint and encourage
them to make their own leaf wreath rubbings.
4. Cut out 3" to 4" circles and 12" squares from fall-colored construction paper.
5. Ask the children to bring their copy paper rubbings to another surface covered
with newspaper. Put out a variety of leaves, paint in fall colors, and
paintbrushes. Demonstrate how to paint the underside of a leaf and carefully
press it onto a paper circle. Let them dry.
6. Encourage the children to glue their leaf print paper circle in the center of
their leaf wreath. Ask them to cut around the wreath shape to eliminate the
corners of the copy paper.
7. Show the children how to glue the wreath onto a 12" square of fall-colored
paper.
