Materials

Leaves of various sizes, shapes, and colors

Construction paper cut into squares

Contact paper

Hole punch

Yarn

Instructions

1. Have the children place leaves on a square of paper.
2. Help the children remove the backing from the contact paper. Show them how to place the
contact paper over the leaves, folding the edges around the construction paper to hold the
leaves in place.
3. Punch holes along the sides of each square.
4. Demonstrate how to lace the squares together with yarn.
5. When the squares are laced together, hang the leaf quilt for display. The quilt can be disassembled
and individual squares sent home with the children at a later date.
More to do
Math: Count, sort, and match leaves.
More art: For a family-centered project, send instructions and supplies home with the children
and let the children make a square with their families, then assemble the quilt in school. Display
cloth quilts in the classroom.
