Instructions
1. Gather the children together and talk with them about the rain. Explain
that the springtime is often a very rainy part of the year.
2. Ask the children what kinds of items they would wear and use if they
were outside in the rain.
3. Teach the children the following song:

(Tune: "Mary Had a Little Lamb")
What do we use in the rain,
In the rain, in the rain?
What do we use in the rain,
To keep from getting wet?
We use __________ in the rain,
In the rain, in the rain.

(Repeat the second verse, challenging children to name other rainappropriate
items.)
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children describe the kind of weather typical in the
springtime?
l Can the children name a month that falls in the spring season?
l Can the children name items they would use in the rain?
