Instructions

1. Take the children for a walk outdoors. Give them paper bags to collect
leaves.
2. After the walk, have the children place a leaf on construction paper, trace
around it with a pencil, and cut it out.
3. Encourage them to trace and cut out five or six more leaves on different
colored construction paper.
4. Use a pencil or hole punch to punch a hole in the top of each paper leaf.
5. Give each child five or six pieces of yarn, each varying in length from 6"
to 15" long.
6. Give each child a tree branch. Help the children tie a piece of yarn
through each leaf and knot it. Have them tie the other end of the yarn to
their tree branch.
7. Cut a piece of yarn about 24" long. Help the children tie it to both ends of
the branch.
8. Let them hang their branches on a doorknob or suspend from the
ceiling.
More to do More Art: Have children make leaf sachets by tracing and cutting out more
leaves from construction paper. Pour almond extract into a bowl. Ask the
children to dip a paintbrush into the bowl and paint their leaves with the
extract. They may prefer to spray their leaves with room fragrance. Invite
them to bring their leaves home and place them in a drawer to make their
clothes smell nice.
