Instructions

1. Send a letter home to the children's families describing this activity. For
example:
Dear Parents,
We are getting ready for an exciting and fun activity with the children, and
we need your help. We would like each parent to record themselves reading
a familiar board book. These "Books on Tape" will allow your child to hear
your voice as he or she looks at a favorite book with the teachers.
2. Take turns sending home two books, two blank tapes, and a tape
recorder to the child's family. Ask the families to record themselves
reading the books (if possible, one family member can read one and
another family member can read the other). Have them label the tapes
with their names and the name of the book.
3. Continue until all the families have had a chance to record at least one
book.
4. Cover the shoebox with colorful contact paper and print "Books on
Tape" on it. Store the tapes in the box.
5. Frequently get out a "Book on Tape" and play it for the children as you
look at the book together.
