Materials

Large cereal boxes

Newspaper

Masking tape or duct tape

Colored contact paper orpaint and brushes

Instructions

1. Cut out two matching large hearts for each child.
2. Use a hole punch to punch holes, about one every inch, through both hearts.
Leave the top of the heart without holes (to leave an opening for the
valentines). See illustration on following page.
3. Give each child about 1 yard of yarn. Help them lace their two hearts
together, leaving several inches at the beginning and end to tie a knot when
done.
4. After the hearts are laced together and tied at the top, cut out a variety of
small hearts from construction paper. Encourage the children to glue the
hearts and other materials (if desired) on one side of the large heart. On the
other side of the heart, help the children print their name in large letters
using the black marker.
5. As the friends pass out valentines, they can do name recognition/matching as
they place the valentines into each heart.
