pipe insulation

color paddles (colored lenses one can see through)

old small appliances (with cords removed)

Instructions

* Benjamin Franklin's birthday is January 17th and Sir Isaac Newton's
birthday is January 4th. (He was born on Christmas Day, December 25th,
but that was using the old calendar.)
1. Explain to the children that Benjamin Franklin and Sir Isaac Newton were
great inventors, both born in January.
2. Read the children a book about these two scientists. Talk about inventors
and inventions.
3. Provide the above materials for children to explore.
4. Let them take apart small appliances and encourage them to explore
new objects!
