Instructions
1. By the time children are four-and-a-half-years old, they become "Silly Willies."
They are developing a sense of humor and seem to enjoy the feeling of
laughter. Their laughter can be contagious. Once they begin laughing, it may
not matter what is said everything is funny!
2. They enjoy rhymes, nonsense, and outrageous things. "Silly" books that
four-year-olds love include:
* Down By the Bay, a traditional song illustrated by Nadine Bernard
Westcott
* Get Out of Bed! and 50 Below Zero by Robert Munsch
3. Children also enjoy the rhyming and word play of Dr. Seuss.
More to do
Language: Encourage the children to verbalize parts of the story with you.
Children pick up on the repetitive parts of stories.
More Language: To extend an activity, ask the children to develop their own
story following the pattern of the story they just read. Beware: They may be
outrageous and very, very silly!
Music and Movement: Play music to go with the activity.
