Instructions
1. Print the title "Classification" across the top of a piece of tagboard.
Underneath the title, print "Hot Things" on the left side and "Cold Things" on
the right side.
2. Cut out eight pictures of hot items (fire, iron) and eight pictures of cold items
(snowman, ice cube) from old workbooks or magazines. Enlarge or make
them smaller so they are a size appropriate for the pocket chart.
3. Glue the pictures on tagboard squares. Use a paper cutter to cut around the
pictures so that the picture cards are all the same size and fit into the rows of
the pocket chart.
4. Laminate the picture cards for durability and cut out. Hang the pocket chart
and title card at children's eye level along with the title card.
5. Talk about cold and hot items. Give each child a picture card. Ask one child at
a time to place her card under the correct heading in the pocket chart.
