squares of paper

1. Write a number on each square of paper, depending on the number of
children in your class. For example, if there are 20 children in the class,
write the numbers 1-20 on separate pieces of paper (one number per
square).
2. As each child enters the classroom, give her a number square. Help the
children tape their numbers on their shirts.
3. Invite the children to find their place on the "number train" according to
their numbers. For example, if a child has a number 9, she stands
between number 8 and number 10.
4. The game continues until all the children have joined the train. The train
keeps moving in a circle after every child joins the train.
More to do Use letters instead of numbers. Children line up according to where their
letter falls in the alphabet.
