* Kite Day is May 12th. This is also a good activity to do in March (Kite
Month) or on June 15th (Fly a Kite Day).
1. Before the activity, cut out fish patterns from tagboard for children to
trace.
2. Give each child a piece of butcher paper folded in half. Demonstrate how
to trace a fish pattern on the folded
paper to make two identical fish.
3. Ask the children to cut out the
matching fish.
4. Demonstrate how to glue the
two fish together, leaving the
mouth and tail unglued.
5. Have them paint one side of the
fish and let it dry. Then have them
paint the other side and let it dry.
6. Attach a string to the mouth
of each fish.
7. Take the kites outside
and have the children run,
holding their kite's string.
More to do Science: Introduce the
children to the wind by
illustrating the movement of air when flying a kite.
