A book about Jackson Pollack
Plastic sheet or drop cloth White cotton tablecloth Paint in various colors PaintbrushesInstructions
1. Use a book such as Jackson Pollock by Mike Venezia or poster prints to introduce the class to
the artist Jackson Pollack and his method of painting.
2. Hang a plastic drop cloth on an outside wall of the school building using duct tape, then tape a
tablecloth to the plastic.
3. Encourage the children to flick paint at the tablecloth with their brushes. This might work best
if children do this one at a time.
4. When the painting is finished, allow the tablecloth to dry.
5. Hang the tablecloth on a wall in the classroom to display.
More to do
More art: Substitute large sheets of paper for the tablecloth. Use as a mural or cut into smaller
pieces for gift wrap.
