Instructions

1. Read a story about postal workers and what they do on the job.2. Provide post office materials in the postal center. Encourage the children todress up like postal workers, put mail into mailbags, and deliver letters.3. Explain why mailboxes have flags and what they are used for. Children canput letters into the small mailboxes and raise the flag. The mail carrier willknow to pick up the letters inside.4. Provide a variety of pens, markers, pencils, old stamps, envelopes, paper, andpostcards. Encourage the children to write, pretend to write, or dictate aletter to someone they know. Show them how to address an envelope andadd a stamp.5. Let the children write different states on the envelopes, and then help themsort the mail in boxes or baskets according to the state on the envelope.
