Instructions
1. This activity uses foods to integrate nursery rhymes into the curriculum.2. Familiarize the children with "Little Miss Muffet" by reciting it often to them. Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, eating her curds and whey.Along came a spider and sat down beside herAnd frightened Miss Muffet away.3. When the children are familiar with the nursery rhyme, ask them what Little Miss Muffet was eating. Explain to the children what curds and whey are.4. Demonstrate how to make a simple cheese. (The curd is the cheese and the whey is the liquid).5. Help the children empty a container of yogurt into a strainer over a bowl.6. Let the yogurt drain for two days in the refrigerator until it has a soft, solid consistency.7. Pour the liquid (whey) into a glass container and show it to the children.8. Spread the cheese on crackers and eat!9. Try some other flavors. For example, lemon yogurt tastes great on ginger snaps.
