tape recorder and audio tape

white construction paper

markers

purple plastic wrap

stapler

Instructions

1. Beforehand, discuss how the print in books is
black words on white paper.
2. Show the children a few books to demonstrate.
Point out how print is read from left to right.
3. Explain to the children that they are going to reverse
the color of the print and paper by writing with white gel
pens or pencils on black paper. Encourage them to
draw pictures on the black paper.
4. When they are finished, ask them to dictate what the
picture is about. Write it underneath the drawing.
5. Let the children draw a picture using a black coloring
pencil or crayon on white paper. Compare the two
drawings.
