Instructions
1. Make playdough ahead of time.
2 cups (250 g) flour1 cup (250 g) salt2 cups (480 ml) water2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil2 teaspoons (20 g) cream of tartarFood coloringMix the ingredients in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until it forms a ball. Let it cool and knead it. If the playdough is too crumbly after it cools, add more oil and knead some more.
2. Cut pipe cleaners into 2" to 3" (5 cm to 7 cm) sections.
3. Encourage the children to make insects using playdough and pipe cleaners. The only requirement is that their insect should have body parts. Insects have three body parts a head, thorax, and an abdomen. They also have six legs and two antennae.More to doLook at insect pictures. Encourage the children to count the body parts and try to identify the head, thorax, and abdomen. Count the legs, too. Find an anthill and watch the ants.
