Small jars (baby food or other small plastic jars) Magnifying glass

A variety of dead insects in the jars, one per jar Word cards

Paper

Instructions

1. Place the insect jars on display in a well-defined area. Label each jar with the insect's name printed clearly and place the word cards with the insects' names on them close by.

2. Ask the children to look at the jars with the magnifying glass. Encourage them to look for specific things related to each specimen, such as size, body color, number of legs, eye location, etc. They can also match the jars to the appropriate word cards.

3. The children can then use small pieces of paper to draw the insects, write their insect names at the bottom and put all of their pages together to make an individual science book.
