Instructions

1. At circle time, ask the children if they can show you where their hearts are. Ask the children to place their hands over their hearts and feel the beat.

2. Tell the children that the heart is a muscle that pumps blood throughout the body.

3. Put on some upbeat music and have the children stand and jog or dance in place for two minutes. Ask them to stop and feel their heartbeats this time.

4. Have children lie down and close their eyes for two minutes while you play some slow, soothing music. Ask them to check their heartbeats again.

5. If you have a stethoscope, let the children take turns listening to their heartbeats (use the alcohol wipes on the earpieces and then wipe them dry between uses). You can ask children to imitate their heartbeats by clapping, jumping, etc.
