Dark construction paper crayons water Epsom salt paintbrush blender ice cubes

Instructions

1. Talk to the children about ice and how it forms.

2. Ask each child to draw a picture on dark construction paper.

3. Let them help mix together an equal part of Epsom salt and water.

4. Encourage them to dip paintbrushes in the mixture and paint over their picture.

5. As the paper dries, their picture becomes "icy." Ask the children how they think ice feels, and how the "ice" on their pictures is different.

6. Ask them how they think ice tastes. Show them how to crush ice in a blender. Let each child taste the ice. If desired, serve snow cones for snack (crushed ice and Kool-Aid).
