Materials

Paint aprons

Ice cubes, ice chips

Dry tempera paint

Small shallow cups

Plain paper

Spoons or popsicle sticks

Instructions

What to do
1. Help the children write their names on their papers and put on aprons.
2. Put tempera powder in shallow cups with spoons.
3. Have the children sprinkle the dry powder onto their paper in small quantities. Popsicle sticks
work best with younger and special needs children due to the fact that they can only retrieve
small quantities at a time.
4. After the sprinkling process, have the children select an ice cube and rub it around on the
paper until all of the powder has become wet and soaked into the paper.
More to do
More art: Have the children sprinkle dry powder on their papers, add a few ice chips on top, and
set by a sunny window. After a few minutes, they can check to see how the melting ice chips have
made a painting!
