Instructions
1. Use this activity when something new is added to the classroom, a special
activity is going to take place, or to make a connection to a story that you are
about to read to the class.
2. Develop some clues about the activity you want the children to try and
guess. For example, if a special guest is coming to speak to the class about
detective work, you could give clues about this visitor.
3. Label a large sheet of paper "The Visitor."
4. One by one, write the clues for the children underneath the label. After you
read each clue, ask the group if they have a guess about whom the visitor
may be. Write each child's name and guess after each clue. Continue writing
clues and guesses until the class knows who is coming to visit. You can
choose to give all the clues in one sitting (as an introduction for the visitor)
or you can spread them out over the day or even a week depending on your
group's interest in the activity.
5. Before the children guess who the visitor is, tape record the clues and place
the tape in the listening area so that the children can listen to the clues over
and over again. This works especially well when the clues are about a story
you are going to read. Place the book and tape in the listening center.
