Instructions

1. Following are some general tips for cooking with children.
2. Begin by preparing the work area and the children. This involves washing the
utensils and work surface, as well as gathering all necessary materials,
ingredients, and equipment. Be sure that all the children wash and dry their
hands and put on aprons or smocks.
3. Show the children the recipe, utensils, and ingredients. Begin by reading the
recipe in its entirety. Rebus/picture recipes are wonderful to use with young
children and can be found in many books, such as Cook and Learn: Pictorial
Single Portion Recipes by Beverly Veitch and Thelma Harms.
4. Explain the procedure. Take time to talk to each child about her part and
answer any questions that may arise. Be sure to mention when and how food
will be eaten.
5. Ask the children to assist in the cleanup.
