Instructions

1. The first step in creating a yoga studio in the classroom is removing clutter.
An uncluttered area leads to better concentration and peace. Cover any
distracting objects with sheets or fabric.
2. Use a soft light bulb in this area with a small lamp. To add soft color, use a
blue or rose bulb.
3. Play appropriate relaxing music, if desired.
4. Hang a crystal or wind chime and other works of art to promote serenity. You
may also post photos of people practicing yoga.
5. Since children should be barefooted while doing yoga, place yoga mats or
beach towels on the floor to guard against slipping.
6. If available, include an indoor fountain to add ambience to the yoga center.
7. Provide eye pillows (made from dry rice and fabric) and small blankets for
meditation and rest times. Also, smooth stones work well as "worry stones."
Tell the children they can rub the stones with their fingers to aid in
relaxation.
8. If you are not experienced in yoga, there are many great videos and books
for learning. Try a few, and then introduce the children to the joy of yoga.
Practice together, working out the poses. When the children are ready, they
can try the poses on their own.
