Materials

clean, empty soda or water bottles (20 ounces; one per child)

black permanent marker

small white pebbles

lots of different colored beads and trinkets, craft jewels,

sequins, or other little "treasures" that it in soda bottles

funnel

plastic spoon

Instructions

Make a header card using tagboard with the question "What Color Are Your
Eyes?"
l Place pictures of eyes to represent different columns. Label the colors under
the pictures (blue, hazel, brown).
What to Do
1. Place the header card in the top row of
a pocket chart.
2. Ask the children to place their names
in the appropriate column in the
pocket chart to indicate their eye color.
3. Discuss the results. Are there more
blue eyes or brown?
4. Challenge the children to group
themselves based on eye color.
5. Once the children group themselves by
eye color, ask them to line up, forming
a human graph.

l Laminate the header card and name cards for durability.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children identify their own eye color?
l Can they identify children in the class who have the same eye color?
