1. Over the years, you have probably accumulated many songs. These include
songs that your center has been doing for years, songs you have seen in pre-

320
school songbooks, and songs you may have written. To keep track of all the
songs, put all the songs together and make your own songbook.
2. To locate songs easily, separate the songs into categories: animals, community
helpers and safety, earth and ecology, me (with separate pages for me/family,
me/friends, and me and health), food and nutrition, fun and silly, hello/goodbye,
holidays (broken down), seasons (broken down), traditional, transition,
transportation, and weather.
3. When parents ask for copies of the songs, pull the songs from the main book
and make separate monthly or topical song sheets. Copy these pages and
include them with the monthly calendar that you give the parents.
4. Next to each song title, write the word "traditional" or the song's author (if it's
a song you wrote, include your own name).
5. Store these song lists on your computer by category, just like the story lists (see
page xxx). Print them out, back-to-back, punch three holes along the side,
and put them into a plastic report cover with prongs.
