Instructions

1. Engage the children in a discussion about spiders. Show the children images of
various spiders.
2. Ask the children where they have seen spiders. Ask the children to talk about
how large the spiders were or what they were doing.
3. Explain to the children that spiders live in the webs they make and use the
webs to gather food.
4. Teach the children the following poem:
A Spider Weaves by Kristen Peters
A spider weaves to and fro,
A sturdy web she must sew,
Her legs work throughout the day
Hasn't time to rest or play,
Her web's done, no time to sleep,
She awaits for bugs to creep,
A moth flutters in her trap,
Now the moth becomes a wrap,
Hungrily, she eats her meal
One that no one else can steal,
Her great web has fallen apart
Back to the top she must start!
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Challenge the children to come up with physical movements for the different
parts of the rhyme.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children describe what spiders use their webs for?
* How well do the children recite the rhyme?
