Pictures of signs magazines and newspapers scissors 9" x 12" white construction paper stapler glue markers
Instructions
1. Introduce this activity at circle time. Show the children pictures of various road, store, and fast food restaurant signs. Encourage the children to "read" them.
2. Give the children magazines and newspapers in which to find familiar signs. Allow the children to cut them out.
3. Fold three sheets of white construction paper in half and staple at the crease to form a book. Make one for each child.
4. Print the title and author (child's name) on the front cover. Ask the children to paste their pictures in their books.
5. Encourage them to take their books home and read them to their parents.Tip: Send a note home with the children informing parents of the environmental reading unit. Ask the parents to send in additional food or soap labels for children to add to their books.
