Instructions

1. Examine books, pictures and models of caterpillars and butterflies.

2. Scatter paper leaves and flowers around the room.

3. Let the children crawl around the room on their bellies in search of leaves to munch (pretend munching only!).

4. One at a time, children crawl to the narrow end of the mat and are given two scarves. Take turns rolling up each child snugly in the mat.

5. The child wiggles and breaks free and flies around the room with scarf wings to visit flowers, sip nectar and lay eggs.More to doArt: Fold a 9" x 12" (22.

5 cm x 30 cm) piece of construction paper in half, short end to short end. Trace half a butterfly on the fold and cut it out, but don't cut the fold. Open and dribble paint on the wing. Close and rub. Open to reveal "inkblot" decorated wings.Games: Create a matching game by making pairs of matching paper butterflies with decorated wings. Hide one butterfly in the room. Give each child the matching butterfly, and let her find the mate.Snack: Make a butterfly salad with half a banana for body and a half pineapple ring for each wing. Fill in the wings with cottage cheese and decorate with grape halves, peanuts and raisins.Original poemSay this poem and perform the actions with the children.Roly Poly Caterpillar into a corner crept.
