pictures or cutouts of different shapes

Instructions

1. Gather the children in a large, open area.

2. Show them a shape, such as a triangle. Ask how many sides it has.

3. Call for three children to each be one side of the triangle. Ask them to lie down on the floor to create a human triangle.

4. Have the rest of the class divide into groups of three and create triangles with their bodies.

5. Repeat above process with other shapes, according to the children's experience or developmental level.

6. For a variation, put children into groups of different numbers and encourage them to make different shapes. They can also try to make individual shapes on their own.
