Instructions
1. Read the children a book about travel (see
list for suggestions).
2. After reading the book, engage the children
in a discussion about the effects of travel.
Explain that certain forms of transportation
generate exhaust, which is a kind of
pollution.
3. Invite the children to stand up and pretend
to use different modes of transportation that
do not require the use of motors or other things that will harm the
environment. For example, you may say, "Everyone ride their bikes." All
the children pretend to get on their bikes and ride around the yard.
4. After a few minutes, blow the whistle so the children will stop.
5. Name another mode of transportation for the children to act out.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Ask the children to suggest ideas for different travel modes and use those in
the game.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* How well do the children pretend to use the various named modes of
transportation?
* Are the children able to begin to understand the importance of reducing
air pollution?
