Materials

Chart paper (adding machine tape is fun!)

Pen or marker

Instructions

1. Place toy animals in a drawstring bag.
2. Teach the children the following familiar song:
A-Hunting We Will Go
A-hunting we will go.
A-hunting we will go.
Hi ho the derry oh,
A-hunting we will go.
3. Now, change a couple lines of the song:
A-hunting we will go.
A-hunting we will go.
We'll catch a (animal name)
And (rhyming action),
And then we'll let it go.
4. Ask a child to pull out a toy animal from the bag and identify it. Encourage
the children to come up with a word that rhymes with that animal.
5. With the children, sing the song and insert the name of the animal in the third
line and the rhyming word in the fourth line. (You can change the fourth line
