Materials

100' (30 m) measuring tape

Pictures and measurements of different types of dinosaurs

Chalk or masking tape

Paper and marker

Instructions

1. Help the children cut out turtle patterns from green paper (see illustration). If
desired, use white paper and color it green.
2. Encourage the children to decorate and individualize their turtles using
crayons or markers.
3. Glue Popsicle sticks onto both of the two pieces of the turtle.
4. Insert the movable head into the neck of the turtle's body.
5. Write the following song on a piece of poster paper.
6. Sing the following song to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot." Encourage the
children to move the turtles' heads in and out as they sing.
I'm a Little Turtle
I'm a little turtle.
I live in a shell.
It is my house
And it protects me well.
When I sense danger I duck right in
And when it's safe I pop out again.

Encourage the children to name their turtles. Ask them to share why they chose
that name.
