Instructions

What to do
1. Read Harry the Dirty Dog to the class and ask the children to imagine another experience a dog
might have that would get him dirty.
2. Hand out the paper and have the children draw a picture of a dog or use a pattern to trace the
outline of one.
3. When they are finished drawing, have the children paint their picture, adding details of the
messy adventure the dog has gotten into, such as a chocolate cake, a mud puddle, or a pile of
wet leaves.
4. While they are painting, have the children describe the adventure. Record their stories on paper.
5. Afterward, share the children's stories with the whole class.
More to do
Language: Laminate the children's papers and assemble them in a traveling book that the children
can bring home in turn and share with their families.
Sand and water table: Make a manageable mess with mud and plastic pets, then give the pets a
bath.
