Instructions
This activity is a way to include the children's families in the classroom's
experience of growing a garden.
* Send invitations home for a garden party.
* Pick and wash food grown in your class garden. If it is a flower garden, discuss
picking flowers for bouquets with the class. The children may prefer to have
the flowers remain in the garden.
* Prepare displays of plant growth charts and other parts of the children's work.
What to Do
1. Welcome guests. Have each family
spread out a picnic blanket to sit on.
2. Let the children show the garden to
their families and describe the work
they did in the garden.
3. Display the books about gardening that
you read to the children, and share the garden-related
poems and fingerplays with the children's families.
4. Eat the foods you have grown in the class garden. Consider adding traditional
garden party foods such as finger sandwiches and lemonade.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Plan a rain date. Remember that some flowers are also edible. Since you've
been learning about garbage, consider reducing it by using dishes instead of
paper goods.

* Do the children explain the garden to their family members?
* Do the children help to pick the food from the garden?
