Instructions

1. Find matching pairs of colorful,
simple holiday or seasonal
pictures or clip art (same size, if
possible). Laminate them, if
desired.
2. Arrange the pictures on the floor
in any arrangement that is
suitable for the children's ages
(hopscotch layout or circle). Place
the pictures so that the matching
pictures are not next to each
other.
3. Tape the pictures to the floor.
4. If using a hopscotch layout, have
the children stand in a line. Ask
the first child to hop on both feet
or one foot, depending on the
child's skills, from one picture to
its match. The child may keep hopping, or you may let the next child in
line jump to two different pictures.
5. If using a circle layout, have one child stand in the middle and hop from
one picture to its match, hopping back to the middle of the circle
between hops.
More to do Picture ideas for different holidays include a black cat, pumpkin, scarecrow,
trick-or-treater, ghost, witch, and bat for Halloween; a snowman, hat and
gloves, and snowflake for winter, and so on.
Math: To incorporate math skills, use pictures of numbers and matching
objects. For example, the child hops to the number 1, and then hops to the
picture of one pumpkin. She then hops to the number 2, and then to a
picture of two ghosts.
Music: Have the children hop while seasonal music plays. When the song
ends, the child stops hopping and her turn is over
Science: Include pictures of seasons, such as trees with leaves, bare trees,
and so on.
