Instructions
1. Beforehand, cut out paper flames using red and orange paper or white paper
and markers. Cover them with clear contact paper, if desired.
2. Talk to the children about fire safety.
3. After your discussion, go outside with the children to have a relay race.
4. Fill two of the bins with water and space them about 3' (1 m) apart.
5. Place the other two bins at a distance appropriate for the children to run to,
directly across from the water bins. Tape the paper flames to the front of the
empty bins.
6. Ask the children to form two lines, one behind each of the water bins.
7. Ask the first child in each line to fill a cup with water from the bin, run to the
empty bin, and pour the water into it (putting the fire out). Then the child
runs back to the line and hands the cup to the next child in line.
8. Continue in relay fashion until all the children have had a turn.
More to do
Discuss other ways to put out fires.
Ask the children to think of ways to prevent the water from spilling out of their
cups when they run.
