Materials

Heart stencils, approximately 2" (5 cm), cut from poster board

Pencils

Pink, red, and white construction paper

Scissors

Hole punch

Markers

Plastic drinking straws

Plastic cups

Instructions

What to do
1. Have the children trace around the heart stencils on construction paper, and cut out a heart.
2. Invite the children to punch one hole at the top of the heart under the point and one hole at
the base of the heart just above the bottom point.
3. Let the children use markers to write their names and decorate the hearts in any way they wish.
4. Insert a plastic drinking straw into the bottom hole from the front side of the heart and back
through the top hole. Slide the paper heart to the top of the straw.
5. Use the straws in plastic cups as place cards for the class Valentine's Day party.
