Materials

Fingerpaint paper glitter real menorah or pictures of one

Instructions

1. Give each child a piece of paper. Ask them to make two handprints next toeach other, with thumbs touching.

2. When the paint is dry, they can draw a candle on each finger. Tell them todraw one big candle, larger than the others, where the thumbs meet. This iscalled the "shamash" or the helper candle.

3. Let the children add glitter for the flames on the candles.

4. Show the children a real menorah with candles in it. If you don't have oneavailable, show them pictures of a variety of different types of menorahs.Explain why there are eight candles and what the shamash is.
