Instructions
1. Cut out four T-shirt shapes from each color of paper and glue each shape to a piece of tagboard. If there are 20 children in the class, for example, you would have five different colors of T-shirt (four red, four blue, and so on).
2. Place two of each color of T-shirt in a laundry basket and stack the remaining T-shirts in a in a pile.
3. Make a clothesline within the children's reach by tying a string between two chairs.
4. Give each child a T-shirt (from the pile).
5. Have them look at their T-shirt and then lay it face down in front of them.
6. Explain that you are going to hang the laundry. As you pin each shirt (from the laundry basket) to the clothesline, the children sing the following song. This is the way we wash our clothes,Wash our clothes, wash our clothes. This is the way we wash our clothes so early in the morning.Additional verses:This is the way we hang our clothes...This is the way we dry our clothes...
7. As the children sing, the two children with the matching color T-shirt should turn over their cards and show the class. Ask one of the two children to hang her matching T-shirt next to yours on the clothesline.
8. Continue singing and playing the game. Select a different color T-shirt and repeat the above step. Do this until all five colors are represented.
9. Start over again so that the remaining children hang their T-shirts the same way. You should have a pattern like this: red, red, blue, blue, black, black, brown, brown, pink, pink; red, red, and so on.
