Instructions

* Collect pictures of coastal and beach scenes. Old calendars work well.
* Laminate each picture, and then cut it into pieces to create a simple jigsaw
puzzle.
* Place each set of puzzle pieces in a resealable plastic bag.
What to Do
1. Ask how many of the children have been to the beach. What is their favorite
thing about the beach? What do they like to do there? Explain that it's
important to protect our beaches so that we can enjoy them for years to
come.
2. Tell the children that they will be putting together jigsaw puzzles of pictures of
beaches.
3. Give each child a set of puzzle pieces and have her complete the puzzle.
4. If some children finish quickly, they can trade puzzles with one another.
Poem
The Beach by Laura Wynkoop
I love to travel to the beach.
I love to watch the sea.
The sand is warm, the water's cool.
It's just the place for me!
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Are the children able to complete one or more puzzles?
* Can the children tell you what they like about the beach?
