l Display the boxes on the floor along with the "Shoe Store" sign.
What to Do
1. Invite the children to come to the "shoe store."
2. Have the children open the boxes and identify the colors of both shoes inside
each box.
3. The children place all the shoes on the floor and match pairs of shoes together.
4. Have the children place a pair of matching shoes inside each shoebox and put
the lid on top.
5. When they are finished, the children may offer to "sell" a pair of shoes to their
classmates.
6. As an option, include play money, a toy cash register, ruler for measuring feet,
bags to place purchased shoes in, and so on.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Have children place mismatched shoes back in the boxes before leaving the
"Shoe Store" so the game is ready for the next person.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name the colors of each individual shoe?
l Invite the children to try on pairs of shoes and walk around the room to find
objects of the same color as the shoes.
l Have children line up the shoes end to end. Can the children walk along the
line of shoes and name each shoe color as they walk?
