Instructions

l Place strawberries, ice, and orange juice on the table with a blender.
l Place straws in a basket and place in the middle of the table.
What to Do
1. Demonstrate how to make the shake. Make half the recipe with one group
and the other half of the recipe with the other group so all the children can
participate. Give each child a turn placing the ingredients in the blender. Ask,
"Can you put a few of the strawberries in the blender?" Pour in paper cups.
2. Give each child a piece of paper and crayons, felt pens, and pastels to draw
their shake.
3. Ask the children to choose a straw to glue on the shake. Let dry.
4. Then ask them to print their names at the bottom of their shake.
5. At circle or group time, ask the children to point to their shakes. Say, "What
color straw did you choose?" Encourage a discussion about color.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Ask the children to describe their shakes.
l Ask the children how many straw colors there were, what types of colors they
saw, and what ingredients they put in their shakes. Listen to each child's
comments. Write down their comments if possible.
