blush, and flower in the hair to signify a female number.
What to Do
1. Display the numbers in front of the children.
2. Hold the paper sun above the first number on the left of the number line.
3. Invite the children to say, "Good morning, Mr. One!" (and continue with Mrs.
Two, Mr. Three, and so on).
4. Reply to the children by saying "Good morning, children."
5. Move the sun from number to number as the children say good morning to
each number.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip S
* Arrange the numbers in a different order each day of the week.
* Draw a large sun (20' diameter or larger) using yellow chalk on the
playground. Write several numbers inside the sun. Invite the children to run
around the sun. When you blow the whistle and say "Good Morning," the
children step inside the sun and stand on a number. Invite the children to
identify their number then return to running around the sun. Play several
times until the children have identified a variety of numbers.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Invite each child to come forward and say good morning to each number
character one at a time. Can each child identify all 10 numbers?
* Create 10 paper suns. Print a number from 1 to 10 on each sun. Can the
children match the paper suns to the paper numbers by matching like
numbers?
