Instructions
l A day in advance, send a note home to families asking them to dress their
child in yellow, blue, or green the next day. Explain that the class will be
learning about mixing blue and yellow to make green.
l Roll yellow and blue playdough into tiny balls, making enough for each child
to have one of each color. If possible, roll enough for each child to be able to
take one of each home in a resealable bag.
What to Do
1. Tell the children that you would like them to help you tell the story you are
going to read. Tell them every time you say, "little blue" or "little yellow" they
should hold up a playdough ball of that color.
2. Give each child one ball of yellow playdough and one ball of blue playdough.
3. Read the story Little Blue and Little Yellow to the children. After little blue and
little yellow hug in the story, ask the children to squish their playdough balls
together until they become single green balls. (Let them "discover" this.)
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children identify and differentiate between yellow, blue, and green?
l Can the children describe what happened when little blue and little yellow
mixed together?
