white chalk or paint

black construction paper

Instructions

1. Using white chalk or paint, write one numeral per child on each sheet of black
paper. Cut out each numeral.
2. Put each cutout numeral inside the box.
3. Invite each child to come up, one at a time, and take a numeral from the box.
4. Have the children line up in numerical order.
5. This may be difficult and confusing for younger children. Try using just a few
number to start. For example, have five children choose the numerals 1 to 5 and
line up. Then five more children do the same, and so on until everyone is lined
up.
