Instructions

1. Put all of the materials at a learning center. Examples of parts of tools include
a clothespin taken apart, the wheel of a toy car, a canning jar lid, the handle
of a spatula, the wing of a toy airplane, a pan or bucket handle, a propeller,
and parts of nail clippers.
2. Explain to the children that the learning center is set up for them to create
gadgets or tools to use in "space." Perhaps the children could work together
or independently to create a spaceship.
3. After the children have created an apparatus, share the item(s) at circle time.
Facilitate the discussion by asking probing questions such as, "What is the
name of the contraption?" "How is it used?" "How did you make it?" "What
materials did you use to create it?" "How would it be used in space?"
