Zipper-closure plastic bags

Tempera paint

Paper

Instructions

1. Give each child a pipe cleaner and a piece of wax paper.2. Using the inside of a roll of masking tape as a stencil, help the children tracea circle on a piece of wax paper.3. Ask the children to cut out the circle. Offer help if needed.4. Show the children how to form the pipe cleaner into a magnifying glass shapeand glue the wax paper circle to it.5. Let them dry. You now have a pretend magnifying glass!6. Encourage the children to use the magnifiers throughout the room. Althoughthey don't really magnify anything, it's fun for the children to pretend theyare closely inspecting familiar toys and items.More to doGames: Hide a small toy in the room and challenge the children to use theirmagnifiers to find it.Outdoors: Encourage the children to take the magnifiers outside and use themto search through the grass for bugs.
